Hey everyone!
Katie and I were able to meet today at Panera, after a while of trying to find who each other was. We were able to brainstorm a lot of what we are doing for our project. Our "Big Project" will be building a Weather Station. I am going to change the concept map and use weatherunderground.com to see what a weather station entails. Katie has created the google doc for the assingment this week and she has invited us to that document. Katie and I have discussed the answers to the assignment but Kathyrn, feel free to add your input!
I will be doing the google map. We searched for weather stations in kalamazoo and then we searched for ones in South Haven. We want the route to show how Lake Effect travels to us in Kalamazoo. We would have our pen pals do the same by them showing us an area that affects their weather as well.
Kathyrn, if you are able to upload the questions answered on the google doc onto the blog, that would be great!
Katie-- I haven't received the email invitation to the google doc in my email so if you could send it again to Rebecca.m.kowalski@wmich.edu that would be great!
I haven't received an invite yet either! kathryn.d.jones@wmich.edu
ReplyDeleteDid you want me to answer the following questions based on our epal plan?
Who are the students your students will communicate with (specific location, grade level)?
When would your students contact these other students (at what point in their project work)?
What kinds of questions would they ask each other and what kinds of information would they share?
What will they do with the information they get from the other students?
or something else? Just trying to see where it is you want me to add my input! I like the epals idea you guys came up with!!
Sorry it's not showing up in your email that you were invited to share the document. I will see if I can do it again - we were having some difficulty w/ Panera's wifi so maybe that was the problem.
ReplyDeleteKathryn - We already answered the above questions. Rebecca & I are going to upload the info into the document & you can tweak as you see necessary. What we would like for you to do is take the finished google doc & upload it to the blog for us.
You can call me at 760-1504 if you don't get an invite to share the document so we can figure out what might be going wrong!
So I went back to the google document, added some words (cuz it was blank) and then indicated that I wanted to share the link via gmail. I had to create a gmail email account thru the google account we have set up for our work. It should go to your wmich email, but if for some reason it doesn't let me know. I'm wondering if you need to have a gmail email account set up so it will come to you via gmail. Not sure at all, but you can call me too if you need. I sent my phone# to you in an email to your wmich acct.
ReplyDeleteKatie was able to add me in with my gmail account. I typed up the questions and Katie is going to work on the first two ones and then Kathryn and I will work on the second two. I will probably not be able to do it tonight, I am seeing my friend compete in a competition but tomorrow I will be working on it all day in addition to the google map and concept map.
ReplyDeleteText me if you have any questions 586-216-5848.
Hi ladies, I added some words in red on the google doc for your review and approval. Also, I won't be able to add my info on the doc until after 3 today (I work at my church & am gone all morning)so don't freak out if you don't see my notes until later. We'll get it done before the end of the day today...
ReplyDeleteChecking while on break at work, will try and look more thoroughly on lunch, but if it doesn't like my phone I get out at 6 and will work on everything then.
ReplyDeleteSounds good - I added my portion of the penpal info, but I think Rebecca's info w/ the kind of questions will piggyback onto my answer of how often we'll correspond with the other students. Feel free to add onto my paragraph if it makes more sense than starting a new one. I'll check the page in a couple hours and we'll see how we're doing. =)
ReplyDeleteSo I tried to find the exact address of the weather stations of the one in kalamazoo and then the one in south haven but, it wasnt working for me. instead i just did South Haven to Kalamazoo... here is the link (http://goo.gl/maps/iQ1Yo). I also shared it with you all on your gmail accounts since google tends to like those emails better!
ReplyDeleteKathryn, if you could attach the map to the blog and write the paragraph for the map portion that would be great!
Here is the reasoning why we chose this route... its a rough draft feel free to change it up!
With this route that we created, we want to show the other classroom in Sydney how our weather is affected by different factors. Our weather in Kalamazoo is affected by Lake Effect which comes from Lake Michigan so we decided to use the route from South Haven to Kalamazoo to see how the lake effect travels to us here. The other classroom will do the same by finding a factor that affects their weather such as mountains, bodies of water, or terrain.
I am about to change up the concept map and then I will post the updated one on the blog.
Ok, I cleaned up our penpal google doc. Wanna take a look at it and get it uploaded to the blog?
ReplyDeleteI'm working on the google doc now, have been for a little. I just wanted to add I'm really glad you guys decided to choose Australia because I was literally thinking we should do that, mainly because of the opposite seasons. :] Will be posting onto blog soon, they held me over late at work :/
ReplyDeleteI thought about maybe adding that they could video tape some sort of forecast for the other class once a week, seeings how they do daily forecasts anyways? But record it and send it to their penpals once a week... ? Let me know if that sounds like something interesting or just too much extra.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds really interesting! plus it is incorporating more uses of technology in the classroom!
ReplyDeleteOk! I will add it in and we can always change it in the long run!
